National Park Band-e-Amir Afghanistan

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) applauded Afghanistan's National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), which announced the establishment of an internationally recognized first is the national state parks.
USAID is providing major funding which led to the creation of parks, including support for WCS to perform the initial wildlife survey, identify and describe the boundaries of national parks, and working with local communities and the provincial government. WCS also developed a management plan for the park, helping the government to hire and train local rangers, and providing assistance to the Afghan government to design legislation allowing the park to be created.

The new park will be managed by the Afghan National Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, and Band-e-Amir's Protected Area Committee. WCS helped 13 villages located inside the park to form this committee, which provide local input into all management decisions. This park will provide employment, tourism-derived revenues, and ensure that local communities play a key role in protecting the world-class landscape.
